GDPR Opt-In / Opt-Out Status
BDP records the GDPR communication preference for each contact, allowing you to see whether a contact has opted in or opted out of receiving communications and include this information in reports.
GDPR Status
Each contact has a GDPR Status which records their current communication preference.
The available statuses are:
- Opt-In – the contact has given consent to receive communications.
- Opt-Out – the contact has not given consent or has opted out of communications.
Default Status
The GDPR Status defaults to Opt-Out.
This is particularly important for contacts and leads received from external sources, such as espc.com. New leads received from these sources are automatically recorded with a GDPR Status of Opt-Out unless an appropriate opt-in status is subsequently recorded.
Viewing the GDPR Status
The GDPR Status is displayed on the contact record using a visual indicator, making it easy to identify the contact’s current preference at a glance.
Hovering over the indicator displays a tooltip confirming the current GDPR status.
This allows users to quickly check a contact’s communication preference without needing to open additional information.

Including GDPR Status in Reports
The GDPR Status can also be included in standard BDP reports. When the GDPR Status field is selected for inclusion in a report, the contact’s current status is included in the report output.
For CSV reports, the status is provided as text, such as:
Opt-In = 1
or
Opt-Out = 0
This makes the information suitable for filtering, sorting and further analysis in applications such as Microsoft Excel.
Example
A contact received from an external source may initially appear as:
GDPR Status: Opt-Out
If the contact subsequently provides consent, their status can be updated to:
GDPR Status: Opt-In
When the contact is included in a report, the CSV output will reflect their current status.
Summary
The GDPR Status feature provides a clear and consistent way to:
- Record a contact’s GDPR communication preference.
- Default new contacts to Opt-Out.
- Easily identify a contact’s status using visual indicators and tooltips.
- Include GDPR status in standard reports.
- Export the status correctly in CSV reports.
- Ensure leads received from external sources, including espc.com, are initially recorded as Opt-Out.
This ensures that a contact’s GDPR communication preference is clearly recorded and available wherever it is needed within BDP.
